The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame have announced their inductees for 2015 with Green Day and Stevie Ray Vaughan making the cut.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame chose the final acts from 15 artists nominated.

Joining Green Day and Steve Ray Vaughan are Lou Reed, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Bill Withers and the Paul Butterfield Blues Band.

Green Day makes it in their first year of eligibility while both Stevie Ray Vaughan and Bill Withers were also first time nominees although Vaughan had been eligible for six years and Withers for 26. Jett and Reed were on their third nominations while Butterfield was on his fourth.

Missing the cut from the ballot were first time nominees Nine Inch Nails, who, like Green Day, were newly eligible. The Smiths and Sting were also nominated for the first time although they’ve both been eligible for six years. Others who will have to wait for induction were Kraftwerk, the Marvelettes, N.W.A., the Spinners, War and Chic who have been nominated nine times.

Ringo Starr was elected to the hall by a special committee under the Award For Musical Excellence. While he was already a member as part of the Beatles, he is the last of the four members to be elected as a solo artist.

The “5” Royales also were elected by special committee for induction as an early influence. The group had the majority of their hits, including two number 1 R&B songs (Baby Don’t Do It and Help Me Somebody) prior to the start of the rock and roll era but have been cited as influences by artists like Steve Cropper and Eric Clapton.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony is set for April 18 at Cleveland’s Public Hall.
