Gregg Allman’s recent hospitalization has been kept as a closely guarded secret.
It was announced in early August that Allman had gone into the Mayo Clinic for an unknown ailment and would be cancelling all appearances through October 16. Nothing more was said on the reason for his being hospitalized but, less than a week later, a statement that he was going home that was attributed to his daughter, and a Facebook post by his son referring to the statement were reported and then quickly denied.
Now it appears that Allman is truly out of the hospital and has been given clearance to perform later this month. Gregg said in a statement “I just can’t wait to get back out there. I’ve gotten so stir crazy these last few weeks. I feel best when I’m traveling and playing. That’s what keeps me going, and there’s no better place to start than Red Rocks.”
His first appearance will be on September 25 at the Laid Back Festival at Red Rocks in Colorado where he will play an acoustic set with Scott Sharrard before headliners ZZ Top takes the stage. He then will pick his tour back up on October 29 at the Laid Back Festival in Atlanta followed by his residency at City Winery in New York at the beginning of November.
