Guy Sebastian will be heading to the Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna in May.
Sebastian was officially named as Australia’s contestant at a function at the Sydney Opera House this morning. An announcement about which song he will sing will be made on March 16.
As a guest country in the event this year, Australia does not have to compete in the preliminary rounds. Instead, Guy Sebastian will be added as a wildcard entry for the final.
Australia was invited to compete in Eurovision this year to mark the 60th anniversary of the contest. In 2014, Jessica Mauboy performed but did not compete.
With Sebastian as an official contestant in 2015, Australians will be eligible to vote in Eurovision for the first time ever.
Australia’s Hayley Aitken will also feature in the event as a songwriter. Her song ‘I Want Your Love’ will be sung by Eduard Romanyuta for Moldova.
Eurovision semi-finals will take place in Wiener Stadhalle, Vienna, Austria May 19 and 21, 2015.
