GWAR leader Dave Brockie, also known as Oderus Urungus, officially died of an overdose on March 23 at his home in Richmond, VA.
The results of the toxicology reports from his autopsy were released today, saying that Brockie died of an accidental heroin overdose. According to reports, police had suspected heroin use after examining the scene in his home while friends had been worrying that his marijuana use had escalated into harder drugs.
At the time of his passing, many questioned whether GWAR could go on based on the large role that Brockie had in the creation of the GWAR universe and in the band, musically. The surviving members have stayed very busy since that time, trying to carry on the GWAR legacy including plans for the band’s annual GWAR-B-Q in August, which will include a memorial for Brockie, plans for a monument, the launching of the Dave Brockie Foundation and, most recently, the announcement that they were going into the restaurant business with the GWAR Bar in Richmond.
