Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton took their romance centre stage on Monday night as they performed Go Ahead and Break My Heart.

The couple admitted they had been feeling nervous about debuting the song on The Voice – the U.S. talent show where they met and fell in love late last year.

But there was no sign of any nerves as the pair took to the stage for the emotional rendition, with just their love for one another shining through.

Blake, who looked smart and stylish in a black and white suit, kicked things off as he started singing by himself, before Gwen emerged from the wings in a stunning sheer dress with floral embroidery.

As they belted out the lyrics to the song, Gwen and Blake were seen gazing deep into each other’s eyes, clearly feeling the emotion of the moment.

When the song drew to a close, the couple got a standing ovation from the audience and their fellow judges on the panel, and were seen embracing as they celebrated a successful performance.

Their rendition of the track certainly helped fuel its popularity as well, as Gwen later shared several screenshots of the single climbing the charts in different countries.

Sharing one snap of Go Ahead and Break My Heart in the number one position in one particular chart, Gwen wrote on her Twitter page: “This just happened @blakeshelton Gx #blownaway #GoAheadAndBreakMyHeart gx”, complete with praying, clapping and heart emojis, as well as a shocked face one.

When they first began dating, both stars had recently split from their spouses – Blake finalised his divorce from Miranda Lambert in July (15) and Gwen ended her 13-year marriage to rocker and actor Gavin Rossdale in October (15).

After sparking their romance, Blake and Gwen decided to address their heartbreak in the lyrics for his new song, and Blake admitted in a chat with People magazine that the tune also addresses the conflict they faced with each other at the very beginning of their relationship.

“(Go Ahead and Break My Heart is) about some serious insecurities that we had when we first started down this road with each other,” he detailed. “We both had trust issues. We were getting over it, but we wrote this song about it, and it’s perfect.”
