A report on the Hollywood Reporter says that Harry Connick, Jr. is signing a deal to be the third judge on the upcoming season of American Idol.
If their source is correct, he will be joining Keith Urban, the only returning member of the panel from last year, and Jennifer Lopez, who is back after a year off. Departing are Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and longtime judge Randy Jackson who will become a mentor.
Connick was not the first choice as a few others turned down the job including Dr. Luke, Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson; however, Harry has had a semi-regular presence on the show both as a mentor and performing.
