Harry Styles Makes His Solo Saturday Night Live Debut

Harry Styles performed a new track during his impressive Saturday Night Live (SNL) solo debut.

The 23-year-old took to the stage for the first time as a solo artist with his latest single Sign of the Times on Saturday (15Apr17), and later surprised fans by performing his second track from his upcoming self-titled new album, the ballad Ever Since New York.

Following in the footsteps of frequent SNL musical guest Justin Timberlake, Harry didn’t just stick to singing, and showed off his funny side in a few of the show’s sketches.

Hilariously impersonating a 1970s-era Mick Jagger in a game of Celebrity Family Feud: Time Travel Edition, the singer poked fun at his solo efforts outside of One Direction.

“Solo? Why would anyone in a successful band want to go solo?” he joked while dressed as the Rolling Stones frontman. “That is insane.”

Harry teased his fans ahead of his SNL debut by having trays of kiwi fruit delivered to those in the standby line for the sketch show in New York. The singer has a track called Kiwi on his solo album, leading fans to speculate he was going to perform the song during the show.

Melissa McCarthy also made a triumphant return to the show on Saturday with her impersonation of White House press secretary Sean Spicer, who made headlines this week (beg10Apr17) after controversially arguing Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is worse than Adolf Hitler.

Spicer also claimed Hitler didn’t use chemical weapons during the Second World War, and called Nazi concentration camps “Holocaust centres.”

Melissa’s Spicer was dressed as the Easter Bunny, and came out to offer a half-hearted apology. “Everybody shut up so I can apologise,” she joked. “Yeah, I know they’re not called ‘Holocaust centres.’ I know that. I’m aware. I clearly meant to say ‘concentration clubs,’ Okay? Let it drop.”

Alec Baldwin also reprised his impression of President Donald Trump during the comedy sketch show, with host Jimmy Fallon impersonating Trump’s son-in-law and senior advisor Jared Kushner.
