Harry Styles’ new solo record deal is rumoured to be worth $80 million (£50 million).
It was recently reported that One Direction’s Harry has made the decision to embark upon a solo career, and is sticking with Columbia – the same label behind the world-famous boy band.
Now, editors at British newspaper the Daily Mirror report the price tag on that record deal was a whopping $80 million (£50 million), and will cover three solo albums from the 22-year-old singer.
According to the publication, Apple initially offered $25 million (£15.6 million) for one album, which forced Columbia to submit a much stronger bid – making Harry is one of the most expensive music artists in the world.
Rumours of a solo venture came after Harry hinted at his intentions last year (15), when he registered four songs with the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) and moved management companies.
OneRepublic frontman Ryan Tedder also spoke about working with Harry on solo material earlier this year (16), admitting he is unsure what is going to happen to the songs they worked on together.
“We’ve done a couple of things, I have no idea what they’re for. I don’t know if he’s doing an album, I truthfully don’t,” he told radio network Key103.
Since One Direction went on hiatus earlier this year (16), the boys have been working on their own projects. Liam Payne has been writing music, Louis Tomlinson is working on his record label, and Niall Horan has been kept busy with his golf management agency.
Harry has also been forging an acting career, after landing a role in Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk, a World War II drama about the evacuation of Allied troops from French beaches in 1940.
