Hayes Carll

The gritty country-folk artist has been on a upward trajectory since winning Song Of the Year at the Americana Music Awards in 2008 with ‘She Left Me For Jesus’. Two years later he scored their New/Emerging Artist Of The Year and recently joined Gillian Welch, Jason Isbell and Justin Townes Earle as nominees for Artist Of The Year.

But it’s not just the Americana Awards that love him so. He was place on Spin’s Next Big Thing Artists of 2011 and his KMAG YOYO (& Other American Stories) album was the most played Americana album of 2011 in the US.

So, finally, Australia gets to experience the talents of Hayes Carll in the flesh for the first time ever in August.

He’s been drafted in for the inimitable Gympie Muster in Queensland on August 23 and 24, and skips up and down the East Coast for exclusive shows.

Tickets are on sale now. There’s a tasty sampler of tunes from KMAG YOYO (& Other American Stories) and explanations for Carll himself below.

James Taylor Farewells Australia With Final Tour (Melbourne Review)

I could go to a James Taylor show just for the stories. The man is a part of music history and is still around to tell the tales of how it all began. Like, for instance, being the first artist signed to Apple Records. James “auditioned” for Apple with his song ‘Something In The Way She Moves’. "Paul went away and started the label and George went away and wrote the song”, he said.
