Word has come down that Henry McCullough, former guitarist for Wings and Joe Cocker’s Grease Band, suffered major brain damage from a heart attack he had last November.
The site Something Else Reviews received the news from drummer Danny Seiwell, also a member of the early-70’s version of Wings, during an exclusive interview. “Unfortunately, we just got some bad news on Henry’s condition. By the time the ambulance got there, because the lack of oxygen from that period of the heart attack through first treatment, he’s suffered some significant brain damage.
“Josie is very hopeful but some of the doctors, according to friends, don’t think that he’s going to have much of a recovery. He’s going to need constant care the rest of his life.
“Absolutely tragic. I love Henry. He and I were very close.”
McCullough has an impressive resume that includes being a member of the Grease Band both with Joe Cocker (including his Woodstock appearance) and after their split, playing guitar on the original Jesus Christ Superstar album, an original member of Wings, leaving just before Band on the Run, and work with Spooky Tooth, the Frankie Miller Band, Roy Harper, Eric Burdon, Marianne Faithfull, Donovan and Dr. Feelgood. He also has a number of solo albums to his credit.
