Australian singer songwriter Henry Wagons will release a collection of recordings he made in Nashville earlier this year without the aid of many digital equipment.
The vinyl release ‘Henry Wagons Upstairs@United’ was recorded at the United Records Pressing Plant in Nashville, Tennessee.
“Earlier this year, we all crowded around a polished table, in an epic upstairs rumpus room above the factory floor,” Henry says. “It was a room of many tales, that looks like its still recovering from a massive weekend in the mid 60s. The ghosts of the presence of everyone from the Motown legends to Wayne Newtown to Hank Williams Jnr. still felt like they were very much in the room”.
The Wagons crew recorded seven tracks that day. “My band of misfits recorded 7 songs, mixed live to 2 track tape, then that reel was pressed straight to heavy as hell 12” vinyl spinning at 45rpm! IT NEVER EVER TOUCHED THE DIGITAL REALM!!! Yes indeed,” he said.
Nashville recording engineer Chris O’Mara worked with Henry on the recording. “All the recordings were done under the watchful eye of Chris Mara, who is the head engineer at Nashville Studio, ‘Welcome to 1979’, using no recording equipment newer than the date in his studio’s moniker. Surrounded by his sublime gear, we performed songs from my solo duets album, some Wagons tunes and I also couldn’t resist doing some Elvis and Waylon,” he says.
Wagons Nashville release is coming soon.
