If you saw Rocketman recently you saw a re-enactment of Kiki Dee performing her hit song with Elton John ‘Don’t Go Breaking My Heart.
Rocketman may have gotten the time-line completely ballsed up, like most of the storyline in that movie, but it did remind us of the name of one of Elton’s earliest proteges.
Kiki Dee started out singing backing vocals for Dusty Springfield. She was the first white artist signed to Motown Records and then joined Elton’s new Rocket Record Company and released her first hit single ‘Amoureuse’.
Kiki Dee had a good working relationship with Elton. She was the backing singer on his ‘Goodbye Yellow Brick Road’ album track ‘All The Young Girls Love Alice’ and also sang backing vocals on ‘Island Girl’.
Kiki Dee followed Elton in the 1990’s when she recorded the duet ‘True Love’ with Elton for his ‘Duets’ album.
In 2008, Kiki released her Under the Night Sky DVD, a collaboration with guitarist Carmelo Luggeri. She will tour Australia with Carmelo.
