The Hilltop Hoods maintain their No.1 position on the ARIA Albums Chart this week with their fourth chart-topping set “Walking under Stars”.
The feat matches the amount of weeks at the top that their past two No.1 albums achieved, with both “Drinking from the Sun” (2012, TW-55) and “State of the Art” (2009) having spent two weeks atop the Albums chart upon debut.
Moving up a place to a new peak of No.2 is the soundtrack to the latest Marvel film ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ with “Awesome Mix Volume 1” swapping places with last weeks No.2, now down to No.3, the self-titled set for Angus & Julia Stone, whilst holding at No.4 for another week is Ed Sheeran with his second album “x”.
The highest new entry of the week comes in at No.5 the second album for New Zealand artist Kimbra entitled “The Golden Echo”. Her first entry “Vows” was also the highest entry of the week (12-Sept-2011) and also came in at No.5, climbing to No.4 the following week, helped by her then current high flying appearance on the Gotye track “Somebody That I Used to Know”.
Holding place at No.6 and No.7 respectively is Sam Smith with “In the Lonely Hour” and the ‘Frozen’ Soundtrack which is spending its 32nd straight week within the Top 10, whilst back up two places to No.8 is Paloma Faith with “A Perfect Contradiction” and down a spot to No.10 is the self-titled debut album for 5 Seconds of Summer. Entering at No.9 is the ninth studio album for another New Zealand act, Shihad, which also becomes their second Top 10 entry as their album “Pacifier” (which they had changed their name to at that time) debuted and peaked at No.8 in August 2002, plus this new album debuted at No.1 in their home country last week.
NEW PEAKS & MOVERS
Violent Soho are just about to finish up a national tour, and their album “Hungry Ghost” leaps back up fifty places to land at No.11 this week, whilst the recent screening in New Zealand of the biopic ‘INXS: Never Tear US Apart’ also boosts the INXS compilation “The Very Best of” back up fifteen places to No.13, the album is No.1 this week in New Zealand and they have two further albums within their Top 40 (Kick & Live at Wembley). George Ezra continues to climb a few places every week with “Wanted on Voyage”, which is up to a new peak of No.18, and returning to the Top 100 at No.25 is David Guetta’s previous album “Nothing But the Beat (Ultimate Edition)”. Passenger jumps back into the Top 50, up twenty-two places to No.32 with “Whispers” and up twenty-three places to a new peak of No.36 is the soundtrack to the new film “Begin Again”. The McClymonts current national tour (which lasts until the first week of November) helps their album “Here’s To You & I” climb back up ten places to No.37 this week and also re-entering the Top 100 within the fifty is Bruno Mars’ “Unorthodox Jukebox” at No.47.
