Hobart singer Asta has been anointed the greatest unsigned act still in high school by triple j.
A combination of judges from triple j and digital station triple j Unearthed plus listener downloads and reviews has come up with the winner for their annual Unearthed High competition.
Asta has been dubbed the winner, favourably compared to Sia, Owl Eyes and Ladyhawke on her submitted track ‘My Heart Is On Fire’.
Unearthed Music Director Dave Ruby Howe said in a press release, “As the entries from budding musos around the country rolled in to this year’s Unearthed High comp it was difficult to shake the pull of Hobart school girl Asta and her stirring pop tune ‘My Heart Is On Fire’. In a field of six finalists – and four other solo acts – Asta asserted her individual spark with an infectious mixture of smoky crooning and effortless pop production that just hits the ear-candy spot instantaneously.’
Asta wins a trip to Sydney to get her track professionally recorded by ARIA Award-winning producer Greg Wales, plus guaranteed airtime and a lunctime concert at her school Rosny College in Hobart alongside hip-hoppers Bliss N Eso.
Former winners include Snakadaktal, Stonefield and Hunting Grounds.
Asta will appear at Hobart’s Soundscape Festival with The Temper Trap, Missy Higgins, Bluejuice, Big Scary and more.
