Hollywood has lost two of America’s best known and loved actors this holiday break with the death of both Charles Durning and Jack Klugman on Christmas Eve.
Durning, who starred in ‘Tootsie’ and ‘Dog Day Afternoon’ was 89. Klugman, who played Oscar Madison in ‘The Odd Couple’ and Quincy in ‘Quincy M.E. ‘ was 90.
Charles Durning starred in over 100 films including ‘Tootsie’ and ‘Dog Day Afternoon’ as well as ‘To Be Or Not To Be’, ‘The Sting’, ‘The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas’, ‘The Man With One Red Shoe’ and ‘The Muppet Movie’.
His first movie was in ‘The Password Is Courage’ in 1962. In 2008 he received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, next to his hero James Cagney.
Charles Durning died on Christmas Eve at his home in New York City.
Jack Klugman played opposite Tony Randall in the television series of ‘The Odd Couple’ from 1970 to 1975 but then spent 1976 to 1983 as Dr Quincy in ‘Quincy M.E.’.
Klugman was a television veteran with appearances in ‘Alfred Hitchcock Presents’, ‘The Twilight Zone’, ‘The Fugitive’ and ‘The Outer Limits’ throughout his career.
Klugman died at his home in Los Angeles. He is survived by his two songs Adam and David and second wife Peggy. His first wife, actress Brett Somers, died in 2007.
