Hoodoo Gurus will not be putting on their Dig It Up concerts in 2014.
Singer Dave Faulkner announced the decision on the band’s Facebook page. “One thing I can definitely say: we WON’T be doing another series of Dig It Up! concerts this year,” he posted.
Dig It Up became an annual event with Hoodoo Gurus as headliner and special garage band guests from Australia and around the world.
The 2013 event featured Blue Oyster Cult, Ron S. Peno, Buzzcocks, Flamin’ Groovies, The New Christs, Tumbleweed and Kim Salmon.
2012 included Red Kross, The Hard-Ons, Died Pretty and The Lovetones.
Faulkner did not reveal The Hoodoo Gurus plans for later in the year but hinted, “I hope we’ll have something VERY COOL to announce soon for later in the year but, for now, mum’s the word”.
Faulkner will perform in Sydney on Thursday (January 23, 2014) as part of the Big Star’s Third concert, a tribute to US power-pop band Big Star with Big Starr’s Jody Stephens and REM’s Mike Mills as well as Tim Rodgers, Edwin Collins, Cat Power, Kurt Vile and Kim Salmon.
Big Star’s Third is part of the Sydney Festival.
Hoodoo Gurus will play Brisbane this Sunday (January 26, 2014) with You Am I, Busby Marou and Bob Evans.
Dates
January 23, Sydney, Enmore Theatre for Big Star’s Third
January 26, Brisbane, Eatons Hill Hotel for the Australia Day concert.
