Doctors who operated on Ian Molly Meldrum today at The Alfred Hospital report the operation was a complete success.
Ian’s brother Brian said today, “Surgeons were successful in repairing a broken collarbone, and extensive breaks and fractures he suffered to his left ribcage,” Brian said. “A metal plate was screwed into place to reconnect his clavicle bone, and soluble screws and plates were used to repair the damage to his ribs.
“The operation on his ribcage will make it easier for Molly to breathe, and will bring forward the time when he can be taken off the ventilator.
After the operation, Ian was returned to intensive care.
Molly fell 3 metres off a ladder exactly one week ago while hanging Christmas decorations. His current condition is listed as serious but stable.
