11 days after his horrific ladder accident Ian Molly Meldrum has been taken off life support and is now breathing for himself.
The 65-year old music guru is now responding to commands but is still unable to speak. His brother Brian told the Herald Sun “He is awake and communicating. He is obeying commands and communicating simple needs, such as he’s sore, or he is tired. And that is a big step along the way”.
Brian has confirmed Molly is also now recognising voices.
Doctors will keep Ian in intensive care and his condition is still graded serious but stable.
Brian described Molly’s current status as “a Christmas present”.
Ian fell off a ladder at his Richmond home while hanging Christmas decorations. He is now recovering from a fractured skull, broken shoulder, and broken ribs.
Doctors operated on the shoulder and ribs this week to great success.
Ian will spend at least the next few months in The Alfred mending from his injuries.
