Ian Molly Meldrum has made a further step to recovery after doctors operated on his vertebra.
The latest operation follows his ladder accident on December 15 and is another step closer to recovery for the music guru.
Following the vertebra operation it is hoped Molly will be able to eventually walk again but he still has months of treatment ahead of him after the accident which left him with a fractured skull, broken ribs, broken shoulder and fractured vertebra.
Molly has been in the Intensive Care Unit at The Alfred in Melbourne ever since the accident and doctors plan to be able to move him to a ward in the coming week if all goes well with the operations.
Molly’s assistant and friend Yael Cohn told Noise11.com that they are “cautiously optimistic” with Molly’s recovery but that he has sustained serious injuries and it will be a long time before he returns to normal.
Molly has uttered the occasional word but has not been able to speak a complete sentence since the accident. He has suffered horrific injuries from the fall. Ian will remain in ICU for the time being but as Yael says “he is no longer fighting for his life, he is fighting to get well”.
