Australian 60s pop star and later game show host Ian Turpie has lost his battle with cancer at the age of 68.
Ian announced at this website that he had been diagnosed with cancer in April last year.
The Melbourne born entertainer was part of the Australian entertainment scene for over 50 years.
He was often scene on Bandstand, The Graham Kennedy Show and The Go Show. In March last year, he appeared in The Go Show live show in Melbourne. He was scheduled to perform at The Go Show again in Melbourne last week.
Turps started his career in 1953 at the Hector Crawford Drama School. The experience earned him radio performances alongside Robert Helpmann and June Bronhill.
By age 16, he was touring Australia.
Turps will always be known in Australia as the host of The Price Is Right in the 1980s. He also hosted Press Your Luck and Supermarket Sweep.
Ian Turpie leaves behind wife Jan, three children and three grandchildren.
