Melbourne’s historic Bennetts Lane Jazz Club will close in June 2015.
The club has played host to gigs by Prince, Harry Connick Jr, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock and Branford Marsalis.
The site housing Bennetts Lane has been sold and after 22 years the iconic Melbourne music venue, owned by Michael Tortoni, will shut down.
Bennetts lane has hosted over 10,000 gigs over its 22 years of operation. It has been a crucial part of the Melbourne Jazz Festival, Melbourne Music Week and the Melbourne Brass Festival.
Bennetts Lane also nurtured educational relationships with The Victorian College of the Arts Uni of Melbourne, The Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music at Monash University, Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School, Uni of Tasmania, Deakin University, WAAPA, Generations in Jazz, and RMIT.
