Indian Superstar Honey Singh Charged With Obscenity

Pubjab rapper Honey Singh has been changed with obscenity and could face up to three months in prison.

Singh faced court in India this week. The Punjab and Haryana high court cited the Punjab government for not taking action against the singer and now the Punjab police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) at the Nawanshahr police station.

Honey Singh was charged under section 294 of the Indian Penal Code for Obscene Acts and Songs relating to his song ‘Main Hoon Balatkari’ (translation: I’m a rapist). According to Indian authorities, Singh’s song “provoked sexual violence against women”.

Singh released death threats over the song.

The action came of after the December 16 Delhi gang rape. The complaint filed by Parvinder Singh Kitna of Punjab Human Empowerment League says Singh “promoted rape culture and had hurt all civilised Indians.”
