INXS received a sales boost overnight with thanks to the documentary ‘Michael Hutchence Rockstar’ with their ‘The Very Best’ album leaping back into the Top 10, not that they have anything to do with the show.
The album, that was out of the Top 20 all day yesterday, is now sitting at no. 3 on iTunes Australian album chart after the profile boost from the documentary on Channel 7 last night.
In 2014 INXS produced their own biopic about the band portraying Michael as a drug obsessed, sex addict. According to people within the Hutchence estate, INXS did not attempt to offer any opportunity for the estate to correct false details before the show aired.
‘Michael Hutchence: The Last Rockstar’ is authorised by the estate of Michael Hutchence. INXS claims that they did not authorise the program are just outrageous because it has nothing to do with them.
The footage for the show was sourced from the home footage of Michael and supplied by his sister Tina Hutchence. Episode 1 detailed the agony of celebrity at the start of the tabloid media intrusion into people’s lives.
In once scene, Michael called out the tabloid lies saying, “its what you see”, a reference to how the public perceives celebrities based on what media feeds them. The irony of the comment was that just moments later an advertisement for one of Australia’s trashiest magazines New Idea, promoting an interview with Michael’s brother Rhett was broadcast.
Episode two of ‘Michael Hutchence: The Last Rockstar’ will air on Channel 7 tonight at 7:30pm.
