INXS is expected to release the official statement announcing their break-up tomorrow.
The comment is throught to have taken other members of the band by surprise. Sax player Kirk Penguilly denied the split to Mark Gable on 2GO-FM Gosford this morning but that was behind “the band meeting”.
Noise11 was told by INXS publicist to expect an official statement this afternoon but that has now been postposed until tomorrow.
This afternoon, new lead singer Ciaran Gribbin posted on Facebook, “Dear friends. I know a lot of you are concerned and want clarification on what happened at the INXS gig last night in Perth. As I write this most of INXS are on a plane flying from Perth to Sydney. Please try and be patient as the Band plan to release a full statement on the subject ASAP. I’m sorry I can’t say anymore at this time and hope this helps ease a few worries and concerns. Thank you All for all the love and kind wishes”. Ciaran
INXS formed in 1977 but in 1997 was torn apart when singer Michael Hutchence committed suicide. Despite the setback, the band continued as a live act with Jon Stevens, Terence Trent D’Arby, J.D. Fortune and then, since September 2011, Cairan Gribbin as singers.
