The campaign to use Iron Maiden to block Simon Cowell’s X Factor winner Ben Haenow from topping the UK chart is set to fail with Haenow’s ‘Something I Need’ now set for a certain number one.
The Facebook campaign with the slogan “Up the Irons, up the charts, up yer arse Cowell’ gathered plenty of moment in the past few weeks and will succeed in placing the metal classic ‘Number of the Beast’ into the UK top 40 this week, but it won’t stop Cowell from ruling the chart for yet another Christmas.
The real surprise for the chart this week is Weadstone Raider ‘You Got No Fans’ which has come from nowhere this week and once again confirms that bad taste is not a negative on the English chart.
The Weadstone Raider is 48-year old builder Gordon Hill who is using his 15 minutes of fame to earn funds for Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital, Wealdstone Raiders Youth FC and Autism Concern.
The song appeared in the UK midweek chart this week and as of Friday was tracking in the top 5.
The UK chart is published from London at 7pm Sunday night (UK time).
