Comedian Dave Coulier (aka Uncle Joey from Full House) could be the ex-boyfriend Alanis Morissette was so scorned by to write her hit song ‘You Oughta Know’.
The lyrics on the songs told of a bitter break-up but Morissette has never confirmed who those songs were actually about.
Coulier dated Morissette in the mid 90s and had broken up with the Canadian singer songwriter shortly before she began work writing the song on the ‘Jagged Little Pill’ album.
Coulier admitted in a 2008 interview that he was the ex-boyfriend whose personal life is detailed in the bitter lyrics. When the song was originally released he was quoted as saying the words were “close to home” but more recently he has distanced himself from the song.
Morissette has always refused to name the subject of the song. “I’ve never talked about who my songs were about and I won’t, because when I write them they’re written for the sake of personal expression,” she said in a 2008 interview.
Warner Music will release a 4 disc expanded edition of ‘Jagged Little Pill’ to mark the albums 20th anniversary in October.
Meanwhile Coulier will return to the screens as Uncle Joey again in 2016 in ‘Fuller House’, the sequel to the hit series that ran for 192 episodes over eight seasons from 1987-1995.
