Jack White’s band became engrossed in a book about a serial killer while on tour.
The musician formed The Dead Weather with Alison Mosshart, Dean Fertita and Jack Lawrence. They all have similar tastes and between shows read Helter Skelter: The True Story of the Manson Murders.
‘This is a true crime book, written by the attorney who prosecuted [murderer] Charles Manson and his ‘Manson Family’ and it’s just incredible,’ Alison recalled. ‘It’s endlessly interesting, scary and crazy. I was on tour with The Dead Weather. We would all be in our bunks at night reading it and you could hear people down the hallway gasping, ‘Oh f**k,’ at the story.’
Alison is best known for being in The Kills alongside Kate Moss’ husband Jamie Hince. Literature is one of the things they bonded over too.
‘I found Edie: An American Girl in a Salvation Army store in Florida ‘ it was my introduction to the whole Andy Warhol scene,’ she told Elle magazine. ‘At 18, I was in Jamie’s room and the book was on his coffee table. That was when we started talking; 14 years later, we’ve never stopped.’
