Jack White ‘Lazareeto’ was the biggest selling album on vinyl in 2014 in the USA.
White’s ‘Lazaretto’ sold 86,700 units giving it a decent lead over the no 2 album from Arctic Monkeys ‘AM’ with 58,700 sales.
The Beatles had two albums in the Top 10. ‘Abbey Road’ sold 38,200 vinyl copies placing it at no 4 and ‘Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ sold 33.600 copies to come in at no 7.
Lana Del Rey also held down positions 3 and 8 with ‘Born To Die’ and ‘Ultraviolence’.
Vinyl sales increased by 52% in the USA in 2014 and now comprise of 6% of physical album sales. “The continued expansion of digital music consumption is encouraging, as is the continued record setting growth that we are seeing in vinyl LP sales,” David Bakula, SVP Industry Insights for Nielsen said.
Vinyl sales rose from 6.1 million in 2013 to 9.2 million in 2014.
