Jack White’s Third Man Records are planning to play the first vinyl record in space, and have built a “space proof” turntable called the “Icarus Craft” in order to do it.
Their Twitter posts announced the intention which is designed to celebrate their seventh anniversary and 3 millionth record pressed.

The record in question looks like a gold-plated 12” master of Carl Sagan’s A Glorious Dawn which happens to be their 3 millionth record pressed.
To celebrate Third Man Records will host launch parties at their Cass Corridor and Nashville areas, where the device will be displayed.
They will also have exclusive commemorative merchandise, including limited edition 12” gold vinyl copies of A Glorious Dawn available.

Jack White will never own the first record to be played in space. 30 Seconds To Mars have that trophy. Astronaut Tom Marshburn played their song from the space station back to Earth via Mission Control Houston in 2013.
