James Corden finds it flattering that Justin Bieber is a regular guest on his talk show.
The British host of the U.S. television programme The Late Late Show with James Corden on CBS, has great camaraderie with the 22-year-old popstar and freely admits to having a “Bieber bromance”.
James, 37, thinks the Sorry singer “really shines” in his guest appearances on the show, particularly when he joins in on the Carpool Karaoke segment in which popstars sing along to their own greatest hits in James’ car.
“It’s been so great to form a wonderful working relationship with him. It’s a two-way partnership built on respect,” James told Britain’s Heat magazine, adding that Justin has made four appearances on the show. “It’s very flattering to see him talking about us in interviews and saying that him doing Carpool Karaoke has helped change the public perception of him.”
James adds that Carpool Karaoke, which has become a pop culture phenomenon and featured the likes of superstars Stevie Wonder, Adele and Jennifer Lopez, sums up what he wants the show to be about.
“(That is), allowing you to be shown at your best,” he said. “We only want you to shine.”
James, who first shot to fame in the British sitcom Gavin & Stacey, also revealed that although he was elated when Mariah Carey agreed to come on the show, she didn’t quite grasp the concept of Carpool Karaoke at first.
“When she turned up, the first thing she said was, ‘I don’t have to sing do I?'” laughed James.
While James is thrilled that his show has been such as success, he admits that it’s hard work making shows four times a week and likens the experience to creating a daily newspaper.
“The best and worst thing is that there’s another one the next day,” he shared. “When you do one that’s great, it’s almost harder, as you think, ‘We have to do one as good as that tomorrow.'”
