James Reyne Has A New Band The Magnificent Few

James Reyne is kickstarting 2015 with a brand new band and new music.

Reyne’s new group is The Magnificent Few. The band features Reyne on vocals, Phil Ceberano on guitar, John Watson on drums, Andy McIvor on bass and Brett Kingman on guitar.

The Magnificent Few will release a new EP funded by fans through PledgeMusic.com

“Since last century, every time I’ve made a record I’ve gone through a period during its unfolding process where I want to release it under a band moniker. It stems from wanting to differentiate any “new” music from any of the tried and true and established – y’know, the hits! – and perhaps create a collective persona that gives new songs a chance to be heard, and not lost or over-shadowed by what has gone before,” James explains.

Reyne sent most of 2014 looking back with his James Reyne Plays Australian Crawl show but 2015 is all about looking forward. “Having spent the last year or so playing and enjoying lots of shows with the band, I feel that, dang it all, now is the time,” he said. “To that end, I wanted to give the band a name and therefore its, and consequently the songs, own identity away from “James Reyne” or, the great cosmos forgive, that group he was in.

The Magnificent Few will also be a group effort with Reyne just one of the boys. “I also wanted to further submerge “James Reyne” and just be the “un-defined” singer, but cooler, wiser and more entrepreneurial heads than mine prevailed; so here, the first endeavour by j.r. and The Magnificent Few,” he said.

The first project will be an EP of new songs. “As I didn’t want us to get ahead of ourselves and we are dipping our collective toe in the water, I figured that it also might be more expedient to record just 6/7 songs and present it as an extended EP or a mini-album,” he said. “I had quite a few songs written, and lots of bits, so we rehearsed and whittled and blended them to the 7 to which we finally committed”.

Reyne will use his project to donate 20% of all money raised ,after the goal is reached, to the Leukaemia Foundation.
