Charlie Haden, one of the great jazz bass players of the world, has died at age 76 after suffering from the effects of post-polio syndrome.
Haden had been unable to perform since 2011.
Charlie’s credit include appearance on contemporary releases for Beck ‘Odelay’ (1994), Yoko Ono ‘Yoko Ono Plastic Ono Band’ (1970), Rickie Lee Jones ‘Pop Pop’ (1991) and Ringo Starr ‘Ringo Rama’ (2003).
Haden’s jazz work included albums by Keith Jarrett (1967-2014), Dizzy Gillespie ‘Rhythm Stick’ (1990), John Coltrane ‘The Avant-Garde’ (1960) and Robert Downey Jr ‘The Futurist’ (2004).
He also played on two Ginger Baker records ‘Going Back Home’ (1994) and ‘Falling Off The Roof’ (1996).
In 2001 and 2003 Haden won a Latin Grammy Awards. Charlie Hden released dozens of albums including ‘Rambling Boy’ in 2008 with Elvis Costello, Bruce Hornsby and Pat Metheny.
Haden’s son Josh is a bass guitarist and singer. His triplet daughters Petra, Tanya and Rachel perform as The Haden Triplets. Petra was once a member of The Decemberists. Rachel was in The Rentals and Tanya is married to Jack Black.
