Jennifer Lopez is on the hunt for the best dancers in the world for a new reality TV competition series.
Lopez started off her career as a dancer, and now she’s using her first passion to help a new generation get their start in the industry with a show titled World of Dance.
Lopez has teamed up with executives at America’s NBC network and international dance brand World of Dance for the unscripted series, which will feature elite dancers from around the globe.
Competitors will be split into three divisions – kids under the age of 16, individuals over the age of 16, and groups. They will compete in various genres including hip-hop, tap, ballet, ballroom and more, facing off in duels until only one act in each division is left standing.
The finale of the 10-episode series will feature the winners from each division competing for a $1 million (£763,000) grand prize and the title of ‘Best in the World’.
“This will be a fierce talent-heavy dance competition that embraces the raw emotion and excitement that dance represents,” Lopez said in a statement. “I am excited to work with World of Dance, an organization that has had an immeasurable impact on the dance community, to give all dancers an enormous platform where their dreams can be realized.”
Lopez, who stars in NBC’s police drama Shades of Blue, will executive produce the series with her longtime partner Benny Medina.
Emmy-winning choreographers Tabitha and Napoleon D’umo, who frequently collaborate with Lopez and created her moves for her Las Vegas residency show, are also on board to develop numbers for the show.
This isn’t Lopez’s first foray in the world of reality TV – she previously served as a judge on hit singing series American Idol, and produced 2007’s Dancelife, which centred around the lives of seven dancers attempting to break into the world of professional dance.
