Absolutely Fabulous star and creator Jennifer Saunders says it was “an absolute treat” to have Kylie Minogue sing the new version of the show’s theme ‘This Wheels On Fire’ for the new movie.
Speaking to Noise11.com, Jennifer Saunders said, “I was desperate for it to be re-recorded and for Kylie to do it was an absolute treat. She was perfect. She has a level of Camp and everyone knows her voice but she gives it a different feel”.
While Kylie made the soundtrack she does not appear in the movie. “She wasn’t available at all. She is never available,” Jennifer said.
One person who does make the big screen is Beatrice Edmondson, the daughter of Jennifer Saunders and actor husband Adrian Edmondson. “Yeah my daughter is in it,” she says. “She is an actress and comedian so it would have been very mean of me not to have snuck her in there”.
However, her famous husband Adrian, best known for his role as Vivien in The Young Ones, found his way to the cutting room floor. “I have to say his part was cut. He was going to be a person at the party,” she said.
The movie may have also skimped on a clothing budget. Recent visitor to Australia Lulu also has a part in the movie and was wearing the same jacket backstage at her Melbourne show as she wore in the Ab Fab movie. “Well spotted,” laughs Jennifer. “I was so mean it was probably her own jacket”.
Absolutely Fabulous premieres in Australian cinemas tomorrow 4 August 2016.
