Jesse Winchester Final Album To Be Released

in New Music,News

The final album by singer/songwriter Jesse Winchester, A Reasonable Amount of Trouble, will be released on September 16 via Appleseed Records.

Recorded while in remission from the cancer that would eventually take his life last April, the album includes nine songs written by Winchester along with three carefully selected covers, Rhythm of the Rain, Devil or Angel and Whispering Bells.

Produced by Mac McAnally, the album includes guests Jerry Douglas on lap steel and Jim Horn on Saxophone. Winchester, himself, contributes acoustic guitar and keyboards with additional appearances by McAnally (lead guitar), Roscoe Beck (bass), Eric Darken (percussion), Lenny LeBlanc (backing vocals), Joel Guzman (accordion) and Stuart Duncan (fiddle).

The cover art is a watercolor by Winchester that he painted in 1969 for his mother before moving to Canada due to his protest of the Viet Nam war. The new song Ghosts is also for his mother as a companion piece to the painting.

Jim Musselman, president of Appleseed Records which also released Winchester’s acclaimed Love Filling Station, said at the time of Jesse’s death “Jesse was a beautiful human being and one of the most wonderful artists that I have had the honor to work with. We had just finished recording a new CD with him called A Reasonable Amount of Trouble and he was very excited about the songs on the album. Jesse recorded a new song about life called All That We Have Is Now about living life fully, and also a beautiful song about facing death titled Just So Much that I cannot listen to without getting tears in my eyes. He showed such courage facing death and was strong throughout. We all can learn a lot from him in many ways . . . I am heartbroken over the loss of this remarkable musician.”

Toto Returns To Melbourne #Review

Toto’s 2025 setlist focuses on the heritage of the band. The setlist was interesting. Compared to how it was curated for Australia in 2019 this time Toto kept to the albums of the 1900s. Mind you, there were no complaints from the audience for doing that. The biggest hits came from those early years.
