The new American Jesus Christ Superstar has been cancelled before it even started.
The two-and-a-half-month touring version of Jesus Christ Superstar, starring Brandon Boyd, Michelle Williams, John Lydon and J.C. Chasez, has been shelved due to slow ticket sales,
The tour was scheduled to start June 9 in New Orleans and run until August 16 in Philadelphia, playing 51 North American cities. The producers have not given an explanation for the cancellation but some sources say that the costs of over fifty cast members and musicians plus technical crew was too much for the ticket sales to-date.
Options Clause Entertainment LLC, an affiliate of S2BN Entertainment, announced today the cancellation of the Jesus Christ Superstar Arena Spectacular Tour.
The tour was scheduled to kick off in New Orleans on June 9.
All purchased tickets will be refunded. Tickets purchased online and via telephone will be automatically refunded. Tickets purchased from outlets/venue box office must be returned to that location for refund.
Plans for this version of the show were much like the movie version, set in modern day.
