We’re now less than two months away from the 6th annual Record Store Day, which will be held this year on Saturday, April 20.
The annual event encourages people to shop at their local independent record store with hundreds of artists offering special vinyl records, CDs and other products made only available through those retailers.
Jack White was previously announced as this year’s ambassador and Wednesday, the official poster for the event was unveiled.
The photo of Jimi Hendrix was taken at a small New England record store, one of many he would spend time in while on tour. It was shot by Ira Rosen and Hendrix’ sister, Janie, granted permission for the use of the image.
Janie Hendrix stated “It’s entirely appropriate that an image of Jimi Hendrix is on the official Record Store Day poster. He was an avid music fan and record collector himself and, of course, his recordings are among the most enduring and cherished of all time. Jimi’s musical legacy and influence grow with every passing year so, in a sense, he makes Record Store Day last much, much longer than 24 hours.”
Experience Hendrix is also making available a limited edition, individually number 7″ vinyl single with the mono mixes of Hey Joe and Stone Free. These particular mixes have not been available commercially since 1966 and are being provided exclusively for sale by independent record retailers.
