Jimmy Barnes Calls Out Dutton Fear Tactics on Q&A

by Paul Cashmere on June 4, 2019

in News

Jimmy Barnes cut right to the chase to call out Immigration Minister Peter Dutton for the spread of misinformation leading into Australia’s Federal Election.

“I watched every night and watched Peter Dutton not know the difference between a refugee and a terrorist,” Jimmy told Q&A’s audience. “I think the mis-messaging that has gone on in this election, the scare tactics, have really been brutal. I think it’s dishonest, I think it’s uncool”.

While the number of Australia’s bowing to the fear was enough to fudge the election of the line for the Liberal Party Jimmy doesn’t think Australians can be fooled forever. “I think the Australian public will see through it. But there are too many people out there struggling to keep jobs and they are confused and all they want to do is put food on the table. There was a big swing to Peter Dutton because of fear, pure fear,” he said.

He labelled Dutton in the very un-Q&A terminology “uncool”. “When people think that they think they are being attacked, like the difference between a refugee and a terrorist, it was rammed down our throats that they are all the same and they were coming to get our jobs, coming to kill us. It just wasn’t right. It was very, very, very uncool”.

Jimmy also performed his current song ‘Shutting Down Our Town’ written by Troy Cassar-Daley on the show.
