Jimmy Barnes is in Los Angeles and back in the studio working on a new album with Jonathan Cain of Journey leading a hand. Cain wrote Barnes’ signature song ‘Working Class Man’.
Jonathan Cain, from the band Journey, made it a special moment in the studio, Neal Schön from his band Journey also popped in for the session.
Barnes is working on another Rhythm and Blues record, a sequel to his 2009 no. 1 album ‘The Rhythm and the Blues’. Before you freak out thinking Jimmy is doing an album of Beyoncé and Snoop Dogg covers, we do not mean today’s (what they call) R&B. We mean the real R&B (ie: Ray Charles, Ike & Tina Turner, Bo Diddley, Little Richard).
In 2009 Jimmy paid tribute to the great Rhythm and Blues artists of the 50s and 60 with ‘The Rhythm and The Blues’ album, produced by Don Gehman, who produced ‘For The Working Class Man’ featuring the Cain song. On this new record, ex-pat Aussie Kevin Shirley (Aerosmith) is behind the desk.
The new Barnes album is expected later in 2014 and Cold Chisel fans may also get a new record as well before the year is out, according to Jimmy’s website.
Barnes was working earlier this week with Keith Urban and recorded in Sydney a few weeks back with Steve Van Zandt when Little Steven was in Australia with Bruce Springsteen.
