Joan Jett label sues software company for ripping song off for advertisement

Joan Jett’s record label Blackheart Records Group is suing payroll software manufacturer Paycom for ripping off ‘I Love Rock and Roll’ for a television commercial.

Paycom approached Jett’s company is July seeking permission to use the song in the ad. A deal was not reached so the company went out and recorded their own music which sounded very similar to Joan’s recording but without putting “another dime in the jukebox baby”.

Jett’s suit claims the Paycom music is almost identical to her copyright work and although Jett didn’t right the song, the sound is her arrangement.

The New York Post reports that Paycom has used a similar snare drum, bass drum, hand claps, bass guitar and electric guitar in its arrangement, similar to Jett’s 1982 rock version but different to the 1975 original pop version by Alan Merrill.

Joan Jett will perform 10 Red Hot Summer shows in Australia from January. Five of those shows have completely sold out.

Series one of Red Hot Summer features Jimmy Barnes, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, The Living End, Diesel, Richard Clapton and Chocolate Starfish.

Toto Returns To Melbourne #Review

Toto’s 2025 setlist focuses on the heritage of the band. The setlist was interesting. Compared to how it was curated for Australia in 2019 this time Toto kept to the albums of the 1900s. Mind you, there were no complaints from the audience for doing that. The biggest hits came from those early years.
