Joe Henry says he has never met Justin Timberlake even though they have written a song together.
Henry has co-written four songs for his sister-in-law Madonna and one of those songs ‘Devil Wouldn’t Recognize You’ is credited to Henry, Timbaland, Danja, Timberlake and Madonna.
The song was written by the individuals at different times in different places. “I give ideas to Madonna and she develops them into songs,” Henry tells Noise11.com. “It’s not like a folk group sitting around a table,” he said.
Joe also co-wrote ‘Falling Free’ from MDNA (2012), ‘Jump’ from Confessions On A Dance Floor (2006) and ‘Don’t Tell Me’ from Music (2000) for Madonna. Madonna is in the early stages of her next album and Joe has passed on some ideas.
But despite having the pop queen as a close family member (Joe’s wife Melanie Ciccone is Madonna’s sister), Joe works more with alt-country, jazz and blues artists. In the last few years Joe has produced albums for Hugh Laurie, Billy Bragg, Bonnie Raitt and Rodney Crowell. He is also album to release his next album ‘Invisible Hour’.
