Joe Jackson has reportedly been moved from intensive care into a regular unit.
The 87-year-old father of Janet Jackson and the late pop star Michael Jackson suffered a stroke last Sunday while vacationing in Brazil.
And according to Us Weekly magazine he is on the mend, as doctors have allegedly approved his transport out of intensive care. The insider claims Joe is now in a normal room at Albert Einstein Sao Paulo hospital.
Apparently his motor skills are slowly recovering and he is beginning to walk, but he’s not taking steps without aid. Physicians supposedly believe he’ll be able to eat full meals soon, but Joe must replenish his energy first.
In addition to suffering a stroke, Joe’s heart stopped three times.
TMZ reports his daughter Janet, 49, has put tour plans on hold to nurse her father back to health. The superstar supposedly cancelled rehearsals for her upcoming string of concerts to be with her dad in Brazil. The outlet reports he is expected to be able to return home to California as early as Monday.
Apparently Janet is planning to take her father back to the United States in her private jet.
His publicist recently told Us Weekly Joe felt lightheaded and dizzy before seeking medical help. The spokesperson noted doctors found a problem with his eye after an artery had burst behind it. Joe was kept in for further tests and it was during this time that his heart stopped for ten seconds before he was revived.
