Butler is certainly going through a period of reflection at the moment, delivering a recorded version of his ‘Tin Shed Tales’ tour, where he toured the nation playing and telling stories in a tin shed set.

In keeping with this, he has just re-recorded one of his foundation songs ‘Ocean’, which first appeared on the demo he was selling as he busked, and then appeared on his solo debut twelve years ago.

It’s the first studio recording of the song since then, although live versions have been viewed over 25 million times in various formats online.

Butler says on his site: “’Ocean’ is a very interesting aspect of my life. It is part of my DNA. It conveys all things I can’t put into words. Life, loss, love, spirit. As I evolve so too does ‘Ocean’.”

He’s offering it as a free download, saying “I’d like to thank you for your continued support over all these years; it means so much to me.”

You can watch a recording below, and head to his website to grab your own copy of the song.
