Jack Douglas, the producer of John Lennon’s final sessions and his ‘Double Fantasy’ album, has produced new American act Silverplanes.
Douglas, originally a 60s folk singer, started his career as a songwriter for Robert Kennedy’s senatorial campaign. After becoming an engineer and producer he worked on albums for Alice Cooper, Cheap Trick and James Gang.
Douglas and Lennon first worked together on Lennon’s ‘Imagine’. Jack was the engineer of the album. He then worked at The Record Plant in New York where he recorded the debut album for New York Dolls.
Jack then worked on a string of Aerosmith albums ‘Get Your Wings’ (1974), ‘Toys In The Attic’ (1975), ‘Rocks’ (1976) and ‘Draw The Line’ (1977). He reunited with Aerosmith for their 2004 album ‘Honkin’ On Bobo’ and was back in 2012 for ‘Music From Another Dimension’.
Silverplanes is Jack’s latest project. “Jack really helped me to shape the songs,” says Aaron Smart (Silverplanes). “What originally made me want to work with him was knowing that he recorded Imagine with John Lennon, and then listening to it and thinking what he must have thought when it was happening. Also, the fact that he worked on ‘Sweet Emotion’ by Aerosmith, because sonically that song is ridiculously amazing and intricate. And I love the realness and honesty that he captured on Lennon’s Double Fantasy. We’ve become really good friends over the past few years; the man is the salt of the earth and I love him.”
‘Falling Asleep’ is the first song from Silverplanes’ upcoming 3EP series.
