John Mayer says that he was “really humiliated” by Taylor Swift’s bitter ‘Dear John’ song.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Mayer responded to the song that Swift supposedly wrote about their brief relationship.
He says the song “really humiliated” him and made him “feel terrible”. This is because, he says, ” I didn’t deserve it. I’m pretty good at taking accountability now, and I never did anything to deserve that. It was a really lousy thing for her to do.”
‘Dear John’ appeared on her 2010 album Speak Now, and features lines like: “I lived in your chess game but you changed the rules everyday”, “Dear John, I see it all now that you’re gone/ Don’t you think I was too young to be messed with” and “You are an expert at sorry and keeping the lines blurry/ Never impressed by me acing your tests”.
Swift has never confirmed that Mayer was the subject of the song, but said it should be “apparent” what it’s about.
Mayer says he was caught off-guard by the song, “I mean, how would you feel if, at the lowest you’ve ever been, someone kicked you even lower?”
He also says ‘Dear John’ was “kind of cheap songwriting” and that she was “abusing [her] talent to rub [her] hands together and go, ‘Wait till he gets a load of this!’ That’s bullshit.”
Mayer’s latest album Born And Raised topped last week’s ARIA chart on its release.
