Johnny Winter assembles a long list of great musicians along with a showcase of classic songs that have influenced him over the years for Step Back, out September 2 on Megaforce.
Joining Winter on the album are Eric Clapton, Ben Harper, Brian Setzer, Billy Gibbons, Joe Bonamassa, Leslie West, Joe Perry, Dr. John, Jason Ricci and Paul Nelson, who also produces.
Winter said of the album “If there’s good people, other good musicians, people enjoy it. I just love it. [Step Back] is just to bring it to the people of today who haven’t listened to the old music. It’s better than anything they hear today.”
Others on the album praise Winter for his influence:
Billy Gibbons: “I never had the opportunity to jam with him. I was content to remain in awe and admiration.”
Joe Perry: “If it weren’t for Johnny Winter, I would have never picked up the guitar.”
Brian Setzer: “When you hear that sound come out of that Firebird guitar, you know it can be the one and only Johnny Winter.”
