Cold Chisel Fans Take Don Walker’s Prince Phillip Joke Seriously

Cold Chisel have had to release a statement to clarify that the Don Walker comment that the band would dedicate their upcoming reunion show to Prince Phillip was a joke.

In a new statement Chisel have posted, “In yesterday’s press release for the upcoming Cold Chisel show at the ‘Royal Theatre’ in ‘Canberra’, Don Walker gave a quote that referenced the recent Tony Abbott/Prince Philip knighthood debacle…

It was taking the piss!

Given that the show is at the ‘Royal Theatre’ in ‘Canberra’ we thought people would have got the sarcasm.

Some people seem to have taken it seriously.

These people really need to get a sense of humour.
End of rant. End of topic.”

Don’s original statement said, “We’re looking forward to playing at the Royal Theatre. We’re thinking of dedicating the show to Prince Phillip, who really doesn’t get enough recognition.”

The comment was a pisstake on the Tony Abbott “knightmare” disaster days earlier when the Prime Minister knighted the Queen’s husband, effectively making him Sir Prince Phillip.

Don’s words were simply a light-hearted take on the news event of the week. However, some people took it seriously.

Cold Chisel will perform a one-off show in Canberra at the Royal Theatre in February 26.
