INXS drummer Jon Farriss has released his first solo record and a smooth R&B track with cricket legend Viv Richards.
The Jon Farriss featuring Viv Richards song is titled ‘Smokin’ Joe’.
Farriss met his cricket hero at a party in 2012. “Viv was such a charismatic and affable guy,” Jon said in a statement. “We hit it off straight away and it wasn’t hard to recognise his love of music. Given these parallels and my desire to hear him on a track, I approached him to see if he was interested in doing something musically and thankfully he said yes.”
Richards’ deep voice sounds remarkably like the late Barry White. “When I went into the studio, I put the earphones on and I started to listen to myself speak the lyrics Jon had written and I got serious vibes. I’m hearing myself with this voice and it sounds good,” Richards said.
The Viv Richards cricket career lasted for 17 years from 1974-1991. In test cricket he scored 8,540 runs in 121 Test matches and scored 24 centuries, five in World Series Cricket matches.
Richards was named one of the Five Wisden Cricketers of the Century in 2000.
