Jordin Sparks is planning on doing a full country music album one day.
The 25-year-old songstress shot to fame in 2007 after winning the sixth season of TV singing contest American Idol.
But even though she is rooted in pop, Jordin dreams of entering an entirely new genre.
‘I love country music,’ she gushed to Entertainment Weekly. ‘One day I will do a country album-I will. The timing will just have to be right.’
Although her full-length country LP will be created far into the future, she does have something to celebrate related to her dream right now.
Jordan is featured on a duet song for Thomas Rhett’s forthcoming album Tangled Up and working on the track saw some of country music’s finest involved.
‘When Thomas and his team called and asked me to be a part of it I was so excited. The song itself is beautiful. It’s called Playing With Fire and it’s a ballad that’s just so great,’ Jordan smiled, noting while in the Nashville studio with Thomas a legendary country songstress made a surprise visit. ‘Reba [McEntire] walked in when I was doing my part! She listened to it-that was actually pretty nerve-wrecking, having someone like her listen to your song when it isn’t even finished-but she loved it. I can’t wait for people to hear it.’
Jordin released her second studio album Battlefield in 2009 and she is currently promoting her third offering Right Here, Right Now.
The singer is convinced fans will be completely surprised by the new sounds she’s embraced.
‘I want people to say, ‘Wait, that’s Jordin?!’ she shared. ‘I grew up listening to a very wide range of music and I feel like that’s made me who I am. So the first album was a lot more pop, the second album a lot more rock influence, and this album has a lot more R&B, reggae, and hip-hop.’
