Journey’s Deen Castronovo is facing rape charges.
A new report from TMZ says that the charges against the drummer for a June 14 incident at his home in Salem, OR have been dramatically increased. At the time of his arrest, he had been charged with assault, coercion and menacing of his wife and had been released on bail. According to the new report, charges of rape, sexual abuse and unlawful use of a weapon have been added. Castronovo has been taken into custody and is being held without bail.
This is not the first such incident for Castronovo. In January 2012 incident he allegedly assaulted his then girlfriend, ripping the phone from her hand when she tried to call her father. In that arrest, he was charged with assault in the 4th degree, criminal mischief in the 2nd degree, harassment, coercion and interfering with making a report.
Castronovo will be back in court today.
Castronovo has previously played with bands such as Bad English, Social Distortion, G/Z/R and backed Ozzy Osbourne, Steve Vai and Paul Rodgers. He replaced Steve Smith in Journey in 1998. The band has replaced him on their current tour with Omar Hakim.
